Rap Artist - Sevin

A culture defined by Christ and misunderstood by many; including the church.
Here's another interview that I came across on Youtube that gives another look at who Sevin of Hog Mob is and where he comes from. This was done last year and some things have changed for Sevin since then; he now has a wonderful and powerful wife and children. I recently got to interview him on some other topics and on Hog Mob's current activities; to check out
my interview with him go to OfficiallyG1Magazine.com
Very inspiring interviews...

This is a very transparent moment - the 1st I've seen in a Christian artist:

Flu Shots, H1N1 Vaccine & A Praying Robber

I thought these stories would be interesting to post as general information about the side effects of these flu shots especially the H1N1 vaccine. And also I wanted to post about that powerful story of that clerk and robber that prayed together.

Blackface Keeps Rearing it's Racist Head

What the heck was famous American photographer, Steven Klein, thinking? Creativity? I think not... blackface is hardly something new. Was he trying to treat blackface like the word "nigger" and change it to a cool "nigga"; trying to reverse the power of its meaning from something negative to something positive? Well, many are yet to get over their awful racist run-ins full of nigger this and you nigger that and have not taken the use of the word nigga lightly.

Were there NO black employees who saw this and thought that it would possibly be too offensive? It's a direct slap in the face to know that black models are already not the color of choice and have no blacks in your issue, yet instead hire a European woman to play a black role. A black model could have easily filled that slot and been absolutely flawless in her own skin.

You know, maybe there is a perfect explanation as to why this has occurred. Maybe they sent a European model over not knowing what the vision of the photographer was. I'm guessing that the photographer and French Vogue just forgot to mention that the model needed to be black. Or maybe they were doing like what Tyra did on ANTM by turning a white model black and vice versa - switching ethnicities overall. Idk.

What was French Vogue thinking? I mean really. Have you no black American relations or respect? Are you clueless of the purpose of blackface - to degrade and poke at the black race? Is this your way of telling blacks to "get over it already"? Well tell that to the Jews (who get reparations* by the way)... and watch your funding go down the drain, right?

Lara Stone is the model. Lara, you are just as crazy as the rest of them and probably figured it would just add more attention to you. As a foreign, early 20 something, I'm sure you could care less. But hey, maybe you simply didn't know. And what gets me is that they use Lara (a supermodel) as if she is a pinnacle.

Maybe I wouldn't be so offended had there been black supermodels throughout the mag... but that's hardly seen in Vogue anyway. We have our token black girls and the rest of us are too common. But yes, I'd still be offended anyway. But how can you have an issue dedicated to supermodels and not have one "black face" in it? Thus, the sting of insult.

Steven, I don't care how many black friends you have. Vogue, I don't care how many black people you have hired... you both have just insulted them all; every friend, every colleague, and America. You have made your statement. You really don't know black people AT ALL. It's never okay to do blackface. Just look at Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson when he did blackface for her roast. Of course she had to defend him; she was in love with him! But as you can see... the two of them are no more. I'm convinced it's probably because she quietly saw the stupidy of misunderstanding and it created a divide - at least I wouldn't be surprised. If Ted couldn't even do blackface in a roast without creating a frenzy, then how the heck do you feel you can do it? Idk, maybe you wanted that sort of attention.

Why Preachers or Ministers Should NOT Charge for God's Word

Don't you hate it when you have heard part of a great sermon series only to have to pay $30 or so in order to hear it "in it's entirety"? That has really discouraged me at times because I know that I will most likely NEVER come around to purchasing the series - do you?

We have heard reasons as to why ministers charge for their sermons - production costs, materials, customer service, etc. But lets see why ministers should NOT charge. Maybe if the issue of money was taken out the mixxx, there could be more people getting saved, getting stronger, being holy, and walking with more confidence in God and His words due to the accessibility of the Gospels. By the way, this post is not to hate on those who do charge, but I do want to give them something to think about - especially if the ministry is small.

John Piper is the pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Lets see what John Piper and his ministry have to say about [not] charging for sermons and how they make due. To read their entire story click here, but here are their main points.

Why We Do Not Charge Money for Audio and Video Online...
We have placed our entire audio and video archive of John Piper’s Sunday sermons on our website so that you and others around the world can benefit from them free of charge. You can stream them, download them, copy them, and give them to others—for free. We don’t just permit you to do it. We encourage you to do it!
Here’s why...
1.
We could make more money if we sell the sermons. But we believe that over the years hundreds of thousands more people will listen to or watch these sermons if we don’t charge money for them. And since “faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17), if more people hear the word of Christ, then, Lord willing, more people will become more passionately in love with Christ
2. -A seminary student in Cameroon, Africa, where the average person makes $800 per year, being able to use a school computer with internet access to listen to sermons which he could not afford otherwise.
-Reducing the risk that a missionary in a Persian Gulf or Asian communist nation will be exposed to government internet monitors by eliminating the registration and financial transaction process.
-A bi-vocational pastor receiving regular spiritual nourishment and encouragement without further taxing his limited budget.
-A university student burning sermons to a CD and giving them to dorm mates.
-A seminary professor assigning students to listen to online sermons without burdening them with further costs.
-A missionary support team downloading hundreds of sermons onto CDs to send to their missionary family located in a remote area.
-An English-speaking Christian in Russia streaming sermons on Sunday afternoons as a means of increasing his or her theological education.

3. Removing Obstacles To the Gospel: ...we look to the Apostle Paul’s example of how to remove obstacles to this goal. In 2 Corinthians 2:17 he says,
We are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.
In Paul’s day, as in ours, many used the Word of God as a means to profit financially.
And as a result, they discredited the gospel and gave legitimate ministries a bad name.
Paul was zealous to distance himself not only from this motive, but also from the appearance of it. He was persuaded that appearances of peddling the gospel of free grace would put a stumbling block in the way of the gospel. It would make it harder for people to see the true nature of the message and the Savior. This is why he wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:6–7, 12:
Is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Or who tends a flock without getting some of the milk? . . . Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.
The issue for Paul was not what is rightfully permitted, but what was the most radically fruitful, as God helped him discern his situation. Similar to Paul, we discern the Lord’s call on us to offer the preaching of the gospel without charge on the internet in order to remove obstacles. Here are some plausible examples:
-Imagine a Christian who, following the death of a family member, emails an online sermon to ten unbelieving relatives who would never listen to Christian radio, but might, in a time of grief, listen to one of John’s sermons on death or suffering with no more effort than a mouse click. One or two of them might browse the website, opening up a whole new world of connections for ministry.

-Or, imagine someone who would never pay to listen to a sermon or even attend a church, because of a negative past experience, listening to a free message online because a coworker recommended it—and being converted!

It’s for countless possible scenarios like these that we are choosing not to charge money for our online sermons. When the Word of Christ came into the world, it came without cost to the hearers. Jesus said to his disciples when he sent them out to preach, “You received without paying; give without pay” (Matt. 10:8). That’s what we wish to do with these sermons.
How Will We Pay for Free Online Sermons?
It cost money for Paul to preach the gospel in Corinth. But he did not ask for money from the relatively wealthy Corinthians so that they wouldn’t stumble over any appearance of profiteering. Instead he trusted God to provide for his needs through the work of his own hands, as well as through the financial support of Christians in other cities who partnered with him in the spread of the gospel. We love his example.
In order to pay for the costs of sustaining our internet ministry, we have resolved to trust God to provide us with partners who believe in this mission and want to financially support it. And this work is continually expanding. We are regularly adding new sermons to the archive, as well as other messages such as narrative poems, seminars, event messages, biographies, and more. The cost of audio and video production as well as the cost of maintaining the site, purchasing server space, and buying bandwidth are constants. So we will let our needs be known to those who are interested and give friends an opportunity to join us in the incredible joy of reaching millions of people with the free Word of Christ.
Would you like to join us?

Unequally Yoked - Christians Wed to Non-Christians

Quite often, Christians marry non-Christians or "merely professed Christians" and therefore can end up feeling "unequally yoked" to their spouse. As time goes on, the desire for the Christian to go deeper in their relationship with Christ can begin to cause a rift between the spouses.

Many things can begin to unfold in the marriage. One person may no longer want to go out to clubs or drink too much anymore - leaving the other spouse to feel tempted towards someone else who does. Or the person may no longer curse or talk the same, leaving the other spouse to feel like they no longer know who they are married to. Then comes an issue of tithing. The Christian may feel extreme desire to give 10% of their household income or at least some percentage, while their spouse may have no interest at all.

What to do?

Don't leave them unless you have reason according to the Bible; they commit adultery or they leave you first. And don't do things to try and make your spouse leave you!

This is where Christian spouses get tested hard! It's an awesome excuse to build your character.

Everything you do can get put under the radar by your non-believing spouse because they may or may not begin to hold you accountable. If you make mistakes, you don't get an understanding spouse; instead you get a condescending reaction. A husband will even quote a scripture like, "wives must submit to their husbands", and a non-believing wife may quote, "men love your wives like Christ loved the church"... then they get "spiritual" on you.

If a spouse won't allow you to tithe then read this Q & A.
Pray to change your perception! The circumstances don't change so change your perspective. Just because your spouse isn't understanding doesn't mean that you can't be more understanding without judging. You should be mature enough to know what you are dealing with and make daily intentional choices to genuinely love your spouse regardless of how they act. If a spouse becomes violent or abusive in any other way, then report it - get help.

Soulja Boy Gets Arrested???? Now You Know...

When you are with a bunch of people and, and they start running all of a sudden, you don't ask questions... you just run!

So Soulja Boy Tell 'Em did just that - he ran! But at some point he finally remembered that his car was back at the location he ran from. When he went back, he was arrested for obstruction.

A gentleman that was still at the house told police that they were in the vacant house to shoot a video.

Also found on the scene were 8 counterfeit hundred dollar bills and another arrest was made, reports CNN. I don't know what that's about but I'm sure S.B. hardly needs fake money, he should have plenty as a self-made entertainer.

He ran, he got caught. I'm sure he'll make a song of it! I just had to blog on this because everyone knows that whether you have done something wrong or not, the average person runs if everyone else begins to run - it's a survival thing. Should he have really gotten arrested for reacting naturally? I'm just sayin'.

What to do when there's Never Enough Money

This blog entry was inspired by Dawn. Thank you!

Some of us prepare or organize a budget for the sake of reaching certain financial goals. Others are forced to budget for the sake of staying afloat. And then there are those that are unable to practice the discipline of budgeting and are constantly drowning.

You do the best you can with what you have until you can make things better. I do not pretend to know the best financial answers, but my husband and I have become somewhat experts of what I call the "make it work" budget! (Tim Gunn couldn't have said it better!

I will try to give a quick installment of how to make it work.

This is great whether you are married, single, on one income, with or without a family and find it wise to be budgeting:

Tithing
Each person (if they believe) should give what is in their heart to give in joy. It depends on your own convictions. I do believe that tithing is crucial to every household but if you seem to be torn between paying your rent or mortgage amount and tithing, and you pay your rent instead, then ask what you can sacrifice your time and thoughts to that would please the Lord... something that He has set in your heart to do but just haven't, on top of having a mindset lorded by His ways.
Debt
- Hold off on making payments for the sake of meeting other obligations with loan deferments which save your credit
- Stick to making incredibly small payments (be careful of building interest with c/c's and loans)
- Or make extremely large payments to quickly get rid of the debt - try not to settle without creating a decent payment history first.
- Restructure your home loan if needed (call the news on them if they don't respond to you)
- Downgrade your vehicle from a hefty note to an attractive money saver (you may even help our planet in the process!)
- Call and simply ask for lower c/c rates to help you.
In all cases, you need just ask in many cases.
Food
- Clip the coupons, shop the bargain food stores (check expiration dates)and buy in bulk what you use the most of (like dinner meats from Sam's Club)
- grow your own fruits and veggies if possible
- In hard times we have a tendency to sometimes eat unhealthily in order to save. This can effect long term health so don't be afraid to call your local SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) center to enable you to afford the foods you want and need for you and your family. And they are accepted by all food stores including Sam's Club.
Entertainment
Only buy what you need but don't restrict yourself from simple pleasures with your family like renting a movie for a weekly movie night.
Extra Income
Sometimes finding work at home can be helpful for extra income:
Alpineaccess.com and other work at-home call center agencies can work for some.
Talents
If you have a talent that can produce immediate money, then go for it! But don't get so caught up in a project that you lose more money than you gain if it's not something you plan to do as a long term passion - don't simply do it for the money. (I had to learn the hard way.)
If there are people in your household with talents like writing, singing, performing... then enter contests that can win money to go towards education or just add to your household overall.
Arts, crafts, & around the house items
Dollar Stores (great for toddler learning, teachers, maintenance tools, home accents and projects)
- Ross, Marshalls, and Burlington are great for home decor, clothing and accessories!
- Places like "Name Brand Exchange" offer thrifty name brand clothes for fractions of their original costs. I love exchange thrift stores because you can trade in your old clothes for "new" clothes and never have to drop a dime. These types of thrift stores save oogles of money! They are also great for baby items like bouncers, walkers, carriers, strollers, etc - and if you have older clothing in good condition from another child that you can trade, you may never pay much of anything! For instance, I "bought" over $250 retail worth of baby items when I had my son, by trading my older daughters barely used items. I only paid $10 out of pocket!
As for furniture... like Maya Angelou's ex-husband taught her, "buy the best quality to be able to sell it for it's worth later, if need be" - or something like that.

Well that's all I'll say for now. But these things can help anyone to stay on a more disciplined financial plan if one is willing to practice humility and yet be proud to save.

Amazing Footage of Anne Franke

Here's amazing footage courtesy of the Anne Frank House Museum. There is a wonderful YouTube channel dedicated to her where they also show video of Otto (A.F.'s father) and Nelson Mandela speaking about her.

We were (and remain) in awe of the innocence of a little Jewish girl by the name of Anne Frank. In "The Diary of Anne Frank" she told of life as a young teen lady going through life as best as possible while in hiding from Nazis. She was eventually arrested and taken to the concentration camps where she died of typhus

Here is the only moving video of Anne Frank, taken years before her arrest

AJ Jewell Died Last Night in Brawl at Strip Club

I feel really so sad for his family! I saw late last night that people were twittering about Kandi and didn't think anything of it until my husband told me what happened.

For those who can't recall who I'm talking about, AJ is that man on Real Housewives of Atlanta that had "a lotta kids", "babymamas", and Kandi's mom didn't want her to marry... so I guess she got her wish. He's gone permanently and I wonder how she feels now.

Lord what are those women gonna do about having all those kids! AJ had like 6 kids... and now he's dead? Over something so ignorant and un-called for? Too many battles to keep a man in the home... either a rollin stone, sexual addictions, drugs or hustlin, gay, jail or death...Thank God for the onces that make it through!

Kandi had announced on the Wendy Williams show the other night that the ring he gave her is in a safe deposit box and that they were taking a break in their relationship.

Jewell was taken to the hospital after his fighting altercation at Body Tap [Strip]Club last night, where he died.

Attention My Lovely Non-Cooking Ladies

There really are less women in the kitchen these days, lets just admit it! Sure, we want to make it seem like we're chefs by day and freaks by night to cater to our hubbies. We are really suppose to be that superwoman; successful, fly, independent, the personal porn star, the Christian, the cook, the childcare attendant, the caretaker and the maid. PA-leese. We'll burn out like a fuse. You can't always do it all, do it perfect, and do it in a timely fashion. I see today why my grandmother had a maid... so that she could be a wife and a mother. Now everyone can't afford a maid now-a-days but I see the value in the help. Exhaustion and depression often can result from trying to play the show role for your family and friends... but to be honest, if you have to put on a show for friends, then your friends should be paying you... and honey they ain't payin' I'm sure - so stop giving them a show! If friends treat you different because you decided not to comb your childs head for the day (or two - lol) then find new friends.

But I've gotten off my point here. My point is that busy schedules, lack of motivation and being unorganized blocks us ladies from our full and realistic potential in todays kitchen. We need quality help where we can get it! I would love a personal chef or someone to help guide me in my kitchen without loosing a wad of money! Is this possible? Yes! For VERY little money? Yes my sisters it is!

Here are my two new best friends (in my mind)! These ladies provide solutions from Heaven and you won't have to repent for using them! Take your first steps away from the pains of stepford hassle! We should remember that cooking for the fam should be a joy and taken more seriously... I have been in the wrong for so long, that my husband doesn't even know what it feels like to have a home cooked meal from me, 5 days in a row. I'm in the process of a 'kitchen mentality make-over'!

1. If you need someone to cook your meals for you (healthy and wholesome) check out personal chefs in your area but one that I love personally is Your Intimate Affairs with Chef Lane. She is amazing and reasonable. Currently she even has a great event happening for date nights, romance and learning altogether. Click the pic:

2. If you want to do all the cooking yourself and need help organizing your kitchen mentality [ I call it], then you have got to get with Dawn Billesbach with Menufortheweek.com
You are provided with a weekly menu and shopping list every week! And you will ABSOLUTELY NOT believe the price for the service!

Big Beauty and Plenty of Booty

OK. So glamour promised to show more regular ladies in their mag. OK. So I guess for the promise kick-off they decided to be over-the-top and show the "plus" sized model in the buff... hmmm. Beautiful they are but I hope they didn't bare it all for nothing. Glamour better make good on actually showing these "real" women in some real clothes in great ads! To me, putting them on the cover naked was like saying, "We don't have clothes to fit them yet, but we're getting there"! I mean wow. Some of you may be thinking that I'm looking too deeply at it and that they were just trying to show how beautiful their bodies are. But let's be honest, the only people who determine what's beautiful in the fashion realm, are those that run the industry. That's why plus women haven't been the majority in the first place. In my opinion, they should have shown them in some of the hottest trends that would give plus size women the understanding that high fashion is for them just as for any waif! In my belief, that would have opened up a whole other demand and stream of revenue for designers. But of course... the sample issue always arises, yes? Money and sample sizes are the bottom line, and more fabric means more costs and overall, more overhead. I mean, what is it? Do designers feel that by making plus sizes available that they are condoning over-eating? I mean c'mon!

So I'm excited to see where this will lead. The magazines have a lot of power. They say what's in and what's not. So if being thick is okay, I think we'll finally see fewer ladies hitting the bathrooms after meals; they may just undo that hidden button on their pants instead!

Quick Mention - Designer Mark Fast (who offers great collections)...
How obscene will this be for some? Idk... If the fashion industry reacts anything like Mark Fast's staff, then it's gonna be a fight! In London, newer Canadian designer Mark Fast wanted to let average sized ladies know that his clothes are for them too. His casting director and stylist both walked out on him in strong disagreement to using the plus models - depending on who tells the story. He used 3 regular sized (8 & 10) models for his show and he lost his help! What oh what will fashion do if there is change? Some people are just not confident in the very look of the woman that they may likely reflect!

The Season is "Precious"

The novel "Push" by Sapphire is pushed to the forefront...

I remember, as I was watching the preview in the theatre next to my mother, being instantly engaged in the rawness of the portrayed roles. Tears welled up as I heard the powerful unspoken dialogue that toiled within the characters. I thought "these actors are coming from a real place"!

I can't wait to see this movie! I'm as waif as they come yet all women can relate to the outward and inward struggles that pressure and plague us when no one is looking.

Tyler Perry and Oprah have banded together to birth on screen the novel "Push" written by Sapphire, which is known to be a true story... whose story, Idk.

Anyhow, the movie is bound to move and encourage many I'm sure. The cast: Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd, Lenny Kravitz, and new face, Gabourey Sidibe. Award forecast... goes to Gabby and Mo'nique... Mad kudos for freeing Mariah from her "insecurities" (we can all use a dose of that), Sherri is the best at adding realness to any project, and I'm curious about Lenny. For there to be two great comedians in this movie, it's shocking to see how very serious the tone is. This is showing how connected Mo'Nique and Sherri are to insightful issues and how they are flexible in talent - Go girls!

Modeling Advice

Random Modeling Tips to Keep for Men and Women
These are topics that are taught in the Runway Coaching by Essence, workshops and sessions. Why do a workshop? Because it enables you to get coached and properly directed with the following topics. And the great thing is that sessions are only $25 each hour. Not thousands or even hundreds! I simply don't like the idea of charging a lot of money when a model already has to spend quite a bit of money on building a book and so forth.Print this out as a reference guide for new/inexperienced models or for those who'd like a reminder.

- Don’t ever give up front money – if they ask then run away. It should NOT be mandatory to pay for modeling classes or pictures (especially on the front end) at an agency – you want them making $$ off of you not the site, classes or other fees.

- Eventually ask what costs you will be responsible for before signing a contract. Some agencies do charge to be on their website (If it costs anywhere in the hundreds I’d rethink getting with that agency. Some charge a fee to ship out your comp cards. Use good judgment. There are also travel fees, photos, comp cards… See what the agency’s system is. Usually unless you are with a larger NY agency, then you foot the bill and make the investments yourself. It should pay off if you are in your niche market.

- When meeting with an agency or going to an open call or even on a Go-see, be presentable with clean fabulous healthy hair, nails and skin with very minimal make-up. Don’t wear really high heels or busy clothing. Look clean, fresh, and simply fabulous at your age! Don’t wear tennis shoes. Where a fitted ensemble that preferably shoes legs (men and women). Wear black to be safe.
Don’t be intimidated or you probably won’t think clearly. Give people your full attention! No distractions, no candy or gum. No food or drinks. No phone, no ipods, etc! Or at least turn your phone off. Be as professional and respectful as possible. Respect the clothes! Don’t sit in the clothes, play around, nor comment negatively. If you have nothing nice to say, remember that your thoughts as the model mean nothing until you say something negative! You never know who is listening or who will tell what you say. So respect every client’s products. Have good questions (for the agency). Prepare them ahead of time and take them on paper with you with a pen to write the answers. It shows you have focus and are professional and serious about being represented by them. Interact with the agent you speak with. Ask questions to the agent and ask for clarity on topics you aren’t sure about.
- Never feel pressure to do anything you wouldn’t normally do. You can choose the work you want to do as long as you fit that market. So if you don’t feel good about promoting smoking for example, let the agency know ahead of time. They usually have a list of things that you can check off that you aren’t willing to do. Ask for that.

- Know what market you are good for and work it to the fullest. Represent yourself as that market when meeting clients. Take your career seriously. Be confident in your abilities

- Runway - Learn the basics of catwalking to be confident in that area if you think you’ll fit in that market. Remember to simply lean straight back on your tail bone, shoulders back, head up and straight, one foot in front of the other. Be tasteful and confident, not bouncy!!!  View the fashion shows I have here on my blog and practice their walk.
Normal runway requirements are 5’9” to about 6’0 for women – men 6’0 – 6’3”.
If you aren’t that height then you probably shouldn’t waste time trying for that market. Focus on the market you were built for and build on that.

- Commercial market - If your aren’t at least 5’9” then seek out more commercial agencies and think more about commercial print work and acting; in which you should surely take the time to get trained. Acting is no joke and actors come a dime a dozen. How will you stand out (in a GOOD way). You must show your talent. For print, you must know your good angles and know how to work your eyes. Buy some fake lashes and put them on to inspire you (if you are lashly challenged like me), and practice your looks. Take pictures and play around with different poses. Get use to posing without a mirror because you won’t have one at a photo shoot to gaze into! You will have to be comfortable and confident in your motions. Study print work like catalog and editorial. If you want to do swimsuit or athletic print work than study those poses. Be open to have a friend tell you when you look a hot mess or when you’re on point with posing for a camera.

- Model bookings - It is an unwritten rule to be 15 minutes early to everything. Sometimes for runway shows, it’s good to be 30 minutes early. Keep the professionalism up at all times but know how to stay relaxed because it’s your natural personality that is radiating and selling the product!

[Runway] Tips
Assessing Individual goals – What are your personal reasons for taking runway lessons? Establish your goals (short/long term, modeling career, need of skill or other personal reasons, or just a productive outlet). Consider how far you want to go with runway. Are you serious about modeling f/t or p/t? Are you able to fully dedicate yourself to modeling? Do you fit the bill – what are the basic requirements and do you meet them?
Confidence, care, & comfort on the runway (personal concerns and/or fears) – How well do you walk off the runway? How comfortable are you in heels or walking in public? How do you feel being spotlighted? How confident are you in yourself? Remember that you have something to offer whether on or off the runway – you are born to make a difference and do wonderful things. Who are you as a professional? Find your professional representative. The pattern of our thoughts determine your outcomes with anything you do in life.
Character – Who you are and who they want! Humility, integrity, confidence, personality, manners, morals. Clients and agencies want models who have a certain look. But how much better to also be a model with good character!
Be aware of runway obstacles – Lighting, stairs, runway shape and length, props, walking with others on the runway (choreography), runway surface…
Lighting and photography – The eyes, body posture for cameras and uniformity. A lot of designers don’t like a lot of turns and twists and arm movements anymore because it’s more difficult for a photographer to get a great shot of the garment. So unless the garment calls for certain movements then keep it simple and do as the show coordinator asks.
Before a show – Understand that a runway job is not only the runway show itself. From the time you show up [early] to the time you leave, your behavior/activity is [mentally] noted and can effect your outcome for more or less shows. Even after you have booked a job and must go to fittings; wear nude underwear (but wear underwear!), don’t wear a lot of make-up.
Runway ethics (what not to do) – bad language, disrespectful tones, negative comments about people or clothing, not listening and following exact instruction, talking while being instructed (directly or indirectly), taking or using clothing items that don’t belong to you, using oils or scented products on the skin or clothing (no colognes nor perfumes), dirty hair or body, colored or non-manicured nails, not shaven or waxed (bikini line, stomach, legs, etc)…
Walking (taking your inner diva/swag for a stroll) – The proper way to walk the runway and choreography. Men, watch men in the high fashion shows in NY – practice it. Women the same.
Model bag; female/male: fragrance & oil free lotion, tampons, leg/eye razor, make-up bag (concealer, foundation, blush, eyeshadows, mascara, lashes, sponges, bronzer, necessary brushes) , hair bag (hair pins and thin pony holders your hair color, clear gel), sheer & black stockings (always buy sheer to waist), leggings. Blk pair, wht pair. Shoes; sole grippers, a neutral sandal, black heel, brown/black/cream boot, gold heel, silver heel, white/cream heel, black flats, white/cream flats (men-dress shoes similar colors). Also, have a scarf (or bandana) to cover your face when putting on clothes – this prevents make-up from getting everywhere. Robe to cover self when needed. The shoes in your bag are a last resort option if they are not already provided.
Hair, clothing, and make-up emergency – male or female, know your flaws (if any) and how to apply your own make-up and do your own hair if you must. But if all else fails, be sure to be one of the first in line to get taken care of if possible. It’s good to have a personal assistant with you that is quiet and professional to help with outfit changes (if allowed), if there are no show assistants available to help with your clothing changes (there usually are).

Here are some simple modeling terms to know:

Modeling Definitions Courtesy of www.ActingMagazine.com

Modeling Agent-Model and talent agents provide representation to actors, models and other talent. The agency helps you find work and collects money after your work is complete. The agency then takes a commission from your work (usually 10-20%) and sends you the rest.

(to) Book- Booking happens when a company selects a model for a particular job. This term is most often used when referring to a model being selected for, say, a runway job.

A Book- A book is usually used when referring to a model’s portfolio.

Callback- All callback is when a client is interested in a model or actor and would like to see them for a second time, prior to making the ultimate selection as to who will get the modeling job.

Composite Card- Also known as a “comp” card, it is a card with a couple of pictures that a model or modeling agency uses to land model work.

Fashion Modeling- Fashion modeling is modeling where the clothing is the central focus.

Fitting- A model goes to a fitting prior to being booked for, say, a runway job. There, the model tries on the clothes of the designer so that booking and other decisions can be made about the talent.

Figure Modeling- Fashion modeling is the kind of modeling where the body is the central focus, such as nude modeling.

Fit models- Fit models are used to test the sizing of sample garments.

Go-See- An interview or audition for a model prior to being booked

Junior Model- A model that looks young and can model junior-sized clothing.

Model Bag- Any bag that is used to carry the necessary items a model needs, such as a change of clothes, deodorant, combs and brushes.

Model Release- A model release is a contract a model signs giving clients permission to use photos of them.

Parts Model- A parts model is a model that is photographed at specific parts of the body, such as the model’s hands or feet.

Portfolio- Contains photos, usually of a model’s prior work, that is used at go-sees to determine which model will be selected for a job.

Print Work- Unlike runway modeling, this work is done using still camera pictures and is used for print, such as magazine photos.

Runway Modeling- The opposite of Print Work, this modeling usually involves a catwalk for models to display a designers clothing line.

What is "Good Hair"? Do you have it?

This is a must see movie! Chris Rock has done it again! You know he loves to prove a point. I have a feeling this will be the first of a few more to come of its kind!
He has gone behind the scenes of the true mentalities about black hair. Weaves, thoughts, preferences, the black hair care industry... it all gets exposed. What o' what will we find???

Here's a sneak peek at Chris Rock's new documovie Good Hair to be release October 23rd.

OMG Rachel Roy Kills It & Tracy Reese is Lovely as Always!

I wish I had better video of Rachel Roy's 2010 Spring line! Every item was beautiful! In my book she has been the best to show for Spring. She shows a realistic line that embodies how a women wants to feel... respected, confident, classy... like a lady.

Here is her 2010 Spring line featured on her site! Check it out! http://www.rachelroy.com/Spring-2010/110017417,default,sc.html

Tracy Reese is NEVER a fashion let down!
"I asked myself, 'What does a woman really need in her wardrobe right now?' " she said before the show. " 'And how do we make these clothes more versatile?' "
Tracy Reese stuck to basic pieces. Some say that she was basically forced to do a simple line due to a down economy... I think not. I think she was simply thinking smart.

Newer Gay Agenda Spreads in Hollywood

So I guess a new way of avoiding marriage is to simply tell your significant other that you are refusing to marry as a protest for gay marital rights! You'll get married only when gays can marry and that's that! That should get your girlfriend or boyfriend off your case about getting married... at least for a while.

Brangelina, Mechad Brooks (BKA Eggs from True Blood), and Charlize Theron have all spoken out about gay marital rights and have chosen not to marry for the sake of it.

Aol.com featured a recent interview with Charlize Theron. She's been with the same man for 8 years yet has decided not to marry until gays are allowed to get married just as heterosexual couples. She mentioned that she would stand up for any group Christian or otherwise if she felt they were being oppressed...but let me not go there, for Christian oppression is never-ending!

(SEGWAYING) This is one of the sadest forms of current protests! Charlize makes it plain that it's very dangerous to treat a society according to personal beliefs, yet this is what societies are made up with and of! Granted, history has proven the dangers of extreme religious dictatorship, but it is not to be compared with the obviously healthy and good natured beliefs of the teachings of Christ. Obviously there are many who don't believe in Christ Jesus of Nazareth so the Christian teachings on homosexuality just seem ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and anti-gay/les. People constantly beat against and twist God's teachings on homosexuality in order to justify the lifestyle. This is expected. It just grieves me, as a Christian, to know that people are adding sin on top of sin already by proudly justifying an abomination and then making a bigger insult to God by fornicating to support it! It just makes no godly sense to me.

And just a side thought, for those that feel like homosexuals are being discriminated against wrongly because they are "born that way", here is what I say to that... Scientifically there are no findings of this and also Jesus stated for such things that we "must be born again of water and [His] spirit". Heck I was having fits of rage, clubbing like crazy and sexing outside of marriage when I came to Christ but I bet you I no longer felt a need for those things upon growing in the knowledge and fellowship of Christ. I went to Him as I was but had come to understand at least to some extent, the holiness of God. So none of us have any excuse for our sins. It is what it is and all we can do, if given the chance, is accept His forgiveness and His lordship. Still, no one should ever be hated against but rather should be treated with love, kindness and respect, according to the teachings and in the Spirit of Christ Jesus. God didn't hate on me for being a sinner, rather He loved me in understanding though He hated my sin. But through recognition of my sins, I have gained a deeper understanding of the blessings of grace towards others as well as myself and appreciate what I have with the Lord.

I'll end it like this... It's like my wise and beautiful mother says, "Celebrity marriages rarely last anyway, so what power does their stand [on marriage] really hold?" Lol is that mean to say?????

Feel free to comment about this topic.

Obama's Address to Congress 9/9/09

Below is the 50 minute video of President Obama's speech on yesterday. If you'd like to view a shorter version click here.
Otherwise, here is Obama setting it straight about his proposed healthcare plan. I particularly love how he praises John McCain's original plan which the President has included as an immediate relief option for people with pre-existing conditions. It was almost touching even. :o)

-Our President wants health insurance to become mandatory for everyone so that.

-He wants multiple (a marketplace of) heathcare companies out there to choose from in order to drive down rates and provide more options for the people; just like there are multiple car insurance companies to choose from (Progressive, Geico, Safe Auto...) where people can choose the best rates. This level of competition will FORCE insurance companies to provide more affordable rates with better service instead of insurance coming from only a handful of companies that control with high rates and unethical practices like dropping the sickest policy holders.

-The President also wants a not-for-profit public option for those without insurance which he said will count for only 5% of the people.

-His goal is to end healthcare abuses and make insurance available (affordable) to everyone.

A Look Back...

I just wanted to post some things that spoke out to me in the news dealing with Christianity.

I'm still waiting to get more info on these stories. If you have heard anything more then let me know.

In the News:

- Praying Dad Found Guilty of Reckless Homicide...
- Miracle: 90-Year-Old Man Gains Back Sight...
- Christian Girl flees from Muslim Family
...

Praying Dad Found Guilty of Reckless Homicide

According to The Associated Press, Dale Neumann, 47, of Wisconsin was found guilty for not seeking medical attention for his 11-year-old daughter, Madeline, who died from undiagnosed diabetes. He, his wife, Leilani and others, gathered in the home around Madeline to pray in agreement for her “complete healing”. 911 was contacted by someone in the home when she stopped breathing.

The mother, Leilani, was convicted of second-degree homicide and now both are facing up to 25 years in prison.

Prosecutors say that it was Neumann’s duty to seek medical attention for his daughter. Neumann stated, "We didn't really sense it was like a life-and-death situation. We figured there was something really fighting in her body…”

AP made mention of another incident where the parents of a 15-month-old were charged with manslaughter for depending solely on prayer instead of seeking medical attention. Their child died of pneumonia and a blood infection. Their charges were reduced to misdemeanors.

As Christians, some may want to know when it’s okay to receive secular help. I find it quite interesting that we know when to accept government aid or the help of an unsaved friend when we are in financial trials. Yet when it comes to life and death, some allow (who I believe) Satan, to trick believers into thinking that if they ask for aid in the medical arena that they are somehow doubting God and not operating in faith. The Bible says that the gifts come without repentance. Therefore, God has gifted people, saved or unsaved, for the sake of His mercy, purpose, glory, and love. We should never feel like we are having less faith for seeking medical attention. The Lord has not created us to be one-man shows and know it alls. No. We have been created to need and love one another.

Satan’s goal is to steal the Word of God from our remembrance, kill us (physically or spiritually), and destroy our destinies in Christ Jesus. Let us not be ignorant of the enemies devices. Let's not over-spiritualize simple matters.

Miracle: 90-Year-Old Man Gains Back Sight

What would you do upon getting your sight back?
Well Marty Alvey, 90, is looking for a young hot love of about 75 years!

In a CNN interview, Alvey told how he was legally blind for 3 years and after being dizzy and taking a fall, he made a 911 call and took a trip to the Emergency Room. The doctors found nothing wrong with him but then he noticed that he was able to see and told the doctor.

The doctor could find no medical reason for his sight returning.

“God blessed me. Why? I don’t know.”

Jeanette Spinelle, his daughter, told CNN about the walk they took and said that “he could see everything he couldn't see before”.

Christian Girl flees from Muslim Family

17-year-old Rifqa Bary left her home in Ohio and fled to Florida in fear of falling victim to an honor killing by her Muslim parents for converting over to Christianity.

"They love God more than me; they have to do this," Rifqa said. "I'm fighting for my life. You guys don't understand."

As reported by The Associated Press, Rifqa is a recent Christian convert and had been communicating with a Christian Florida family through an online prayer group.

Rev. Blake Lorenz, Pastor of Global Revolution Church has been her upfront support. He stood by her side as she stated her claims of endangerment.

Authorities question whether or not Rifqa is in any real danger feeling that the parents are genuine in their concerns for their daughter. Rifqa’s father, Mohamed Bary, stated, "We love her, we want her back, she is free to practice her religion, whatever she believes in, that's OK." Her father said he didn't make any threats toward her and feels she has been wrongly influenced.

The story is a bit complex to judge for the simple fact that Muslims are known to practice Sharia law which would condone the killing of a Muslim that converts to another faith. Conversion from Islam is considered an embarrassment to Muslim families and an act against Allah.

There simply aren’t enough details from either side to determine the realness of Rifqa’s concerns. Last heard, Rifqa is in state custody and authorities aren’t fully sure if she should go back to her parents.

No more Telemarketers! New Law...

Here's what's up. Telemarketers can't call your house but now neither can those annoying automated messages.

I still have to get more details but I know AOL had a story about it if you can track it there.

This new law prevents telemarketers from calling even if they have done business with you in the past. The only way a telemarketer can contact you is if you give them written permission.

Yay!

Do You Have Fears?

If you have F.E.A.R, you must remember that you have already been given F.A.I.T.H.

God says that He has given each of us a measure of faith! Lets take advantage of it! Romans 12:3

F.E.A.R stands for:
FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL.

F.A.I.T.H. stands for:
FAVOR AS IN THE HEAVENS.

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

I hope this encourages someone.

Plaxico Burress

In 2008, Plaxico Burress, former wide receiver for the Steelers and Giants, created his own nightmare by shooting himself in the leg with his own gun while in a New York nightclub.

Burress had the gun in his waistband when it started slipping. When he reached for the gun it went off and shot him inches away from his femoral artery. The hospital failed to report the incident to the police but they found out anyway due to the news coverage. He turned himself in to face charges.

Burress is scheduled to report to prison in September and I think it's just crazy. Here is a man with no serious priors. Okay, He did have a couple of domestic issues which were dropped, some moving violations, and he had plenty of issues on the field.

He has to serve a 2 year sentence and then once out, will be under supervision.
Now under New York law, he should have received at least 3 1/2 years so apparently he was shown some leniency. However his bond was a bit suspect.

Before finding out his status, Burress' bond was only $10,000. After finding out who he was, it was set to $250,000. This is where I had an issue. It's obvious that the state saw his bond as an opportunity to fatten their pockets. I hardly think they suspected him to be a flight risk because he would have too much to lose. Also, they knew most likely that even if he were a flight risk, he could still afford bail and leave.

Plaxico said in an interview that he didn't know it was illegal to carry at all. I don't know if he was telling the truth or not. He stated that after being burglarized twice and knowing friends that had been robbed, he felt the need to protect himself.
In his case, I am sympathetic to his concerns and I'm sure many other athletes feel the same way. However, with owning firearms and having a public status, one should think wisely enough to go the extra mile to be aware of and adhere to city and state laws. They have too much at risk to not be knowledgeable in these things.

Due to the mishap, Burress will miss the birth of his new daughter in November and will be away from his wife and son as well. Professionally, he is now a free agent and will most likely play again after his release, hopefully more humble and wiser.

Life On the Tarmac

How familiar is the frustration of being stuck on a tarmac waiting to take flight.

We recently have heard of the horrific story of passengers being stuck on a tarmac for 9 hours or so and that it took an overall 12 hours to complete their transport.
Passengers rightfully complained of the stench of an overused toilet, stinky diapers, crying babies, lack of comfort, and lack of food and drink.

I find it interesting that in the same way these people were detained, often, life can detain us in a similar manner. Sometimes the attempt to get moving is stalled for unbelievable or even unknown reasons. No matter how much we are ready to complete a task, go higher in our purpose, or feel the need for greater success, there can be a huge delay. Our plans for our lives get re-routed, shifted, and sometimes shut down, causing us to create a new action plan. Though, this can be depressing, frustrating and totally inconvenient, if we are smart we'll allow the interruption to make us more creative and wisely productive!

We've all been created and wired to move toward something. Aging and death are proof of this. So either way, whether delayed, denied, or derailed, our lives our filled with a purposeful inertia.

What To Really Do When Your Spouse Looks Guilty...

What do you do when every arrow points to your spouse cheating but deep down you think they're not?

1. First. Think rationally and remember that arrows are meant to harm and pierce deeply. Don't be [an easy] target! Therefore, be careful not to act simply off the appearance of things. Keep peace and shun negative thinking if you can.

2. Be honest and examine yourself. Are you unusually insecure? Or do you have valid reason to be suspicious; trust your instinct and don't feel bad about your suspicions. Suspicions are sometimes God's way of guiding us to a better place.

3. Do not talk to irrational people that never have peace or keep up drama, no matter how much you love them. Don't speak to anyone that plays sides, no matter how much they love you.

4. Remember who your spouse is. Trust that special part of them that made you feel secure from the beginning. It's okay to believe that they are not cheating on you. Have faith. Pray the Lord expose them to him/herself and fill their heart with understanding and wisdom if they have been making unwise and disrespectful choices.

5. You feel your spouse has crossed marital boundaries? This doesn't mean adultery has taken place. This is possibly a danger zone for it to soon occur so you must be confident in what you see and respectfully discuss what you have noticed. Tell them in so many words that you see the arrows that have come to destroy your union. Respectful communication is key.

6. Do not repay evil for evil. Don't spark more confusion by doing the same wrongs as your spouse. Be the bigger person and simply act like you have a life outside of him/her. :o)

7. You must still do your part! Love and admonish your spouse and don't be afraid to be made a fool of; you know, the feeling of being naive or gullible while s/he sleeps around.

8. Trust the Almighty! Don't look for negative signs because that gives room for evil to cloud your judgment. God will reveal to YOU what the real deal is. What's in the dark must always come to the light. It's a principle set forth in this earth that must occur. God will confirm whether your spouse is guilty or not and your heart will not be changed. You will be secure in your knowing.

Be blessed!

So They Waited... and Waited

I was one of those people who would say that I would call you right back and then not do so.

You know, I really thought that it was normal to do that. Surely the person I'd say it to didn't really expect me to call them right back. I mean I just figured that if I remembered to or needed to actually call them right back then cool, but if not, then it was no big deal! I thought nothing more of it.
Does this sound familiar? Sure it does. You either do it to someone or someone does it to you. It's just that common.

One of my best friends recently had this same complaint about business calls that needed to be followed through on. She felt she should not have to track down grown individuals to get time sensative updates. She has full right to be disappointed. They would tell her they would call back with the info and then never call back!

It took for my brother to drill his point home to me about this very act that I was constantly committing against him. He kept reminding me of how he really took me for my word when I said I'd call back. He complained that he'd expect the call the same day but then days would go by and he'd here nothing from me.
Without him saying this directly to me, I was finally starting to understand that what I was doing was being inconsiderate of other people. I didn't know that people were taking my words seriously. My mother, brother, sister-in-law, and friends all at some point had this issue with me. I realized I was being selfish in my thinking; I never even thought to consider their feelings...I didn't think it was important enough. However, it made everyone feel as if I felt they weren't important enough to care.

Think about it. When someone you care about says they will call you back - especially when you are discussing something of importance - don't you sit closer to your phone, expecting to get that returned call? How does it make you feel when you never hear back? Do you end up having to be the one to call back?
Lets do unto others as we'd have them do unto us. :o)

So now when I say I will call back, these are not aimless words that will go out void. My words will complete their task. Even if I am unable to call right back to finish a conversation, I now try to at least call back within the same day or 24 hours. It's a simple and selfless act of respect.

p.s.
I was also one of those people who would hang up the phone without saying goodbye. The grandparents hated that one!
